SCOTUS lets third-country deportations resume, 6-3
The Supreme Court voted 6–3 on Tuesday to stay a Boston judge's ruling that had blocked the Department of Homeland Security's third-country removal policy — migrants can once again be deported to countries other than their homeland without a chance to show they would be harmed there. The three liberal justices would have kept the block in place.
It is the third time the court has sided with the administration on the practice while it is litigated. Full arguments are set for December, with a final ruling expected by the end of June. More than 25,000 migrants have been deported to 29 countries under the policy so far, mostly to Mexico, plus South Sudan, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, and the Central African Republic.
